Bill O’Reilly and Marc Lamont Hill debate Barack Obama’s Fathers Day speech. Was this a message of encouragement and critique to African American fathers, or attempt to score cheap political points with white voters?

nobody in the black community thinks its cool to abandon your child where did he even get that idea. i do agree however that fathers who abandon their children do not get crtisized enough and we have to admit that this is a very big problem among black communities at the moment; whether the situation is improving or not im not even sure.

When did O’Reilly start caring about what happens in the black community.

obama’s message wasn’t about the government controlling family life, he was simply advocating the importance of a father in the family, and that families need to stick to values

We need to have more discussions on single fathers as much as we do missing ones. I know that b/c there are so many more single mothers that they are going to get much of the attention, but I think that single fathers deserve WAY more attention and should get more support. This is coming from a guy raised by a single mother too cause I feel for single fathers that seem to be ignored.

How can you agree with Bill O’reilly that black people don’t take care of their families?

Are you saying that Black people are less civilized then whites? Are you hating on your own race?

Why blame themselves when others will spoon feed you their guilt. Just keep your empty palm to the sky and pappa government will supply the breast.

O’Reilly is right..before the 1960’s Blacks had father’s in the home. But what he doesn’t know or acknowledge is the role racism played in the destruction of the Black family starting in the late 1960’s. This is when they found other ways to oppress Blacks after the Civil Rights Bill was passed. They increased the police presence in the Black community after flooding it with drugs, they implented various programs such as welfare which rewarded Black women for having kids w/o a man in the home et

Wow…A man can have an impressive three letters after his name and even the most elementary reasoning can escape him. I read Obama’s speech and he very clearly mentioned the government’s responsibility in helping to make quality fatherhood more reachable. He just rightfully emphasized the father’s responsibility (vs. the government) because these were the people he was addressing.

Lamont Hill makes no valid points at all. Majority of the time sex is consenual. If a child is produced by two people who had consenual sex then both of them should raise it. What black people need to do is (A) WOMEN MAKE BETTER CHOICES WHO YOU ARE HAVING SEX WITH (B) USE PROTECTION (C) IF YOU CANT BE THEIR FINACIALLY BE THERE AT LEAST PHYSICALLY FOR THE CHILD(D) WAIT UNTIL MARRIAGE TO HAVE SEX… The system has nothing to do with you not being their for your kids I agree with Obama 100%

I am a an african american and I completely agree with Bill Oreilly. Wether anyone feels President Elect Obama was pandering to the conservitive movement does not negate the truth and accuracy of his statements. Men we need to be men and take care of our children despite whatever setbacks we think there are. 46 years ago our forefathers had so little but did so much, while we now have so much and do so little! What an embarassment. Thank you Obama for being an example of a true man.
